High-tech trash bins help clean up city

NEW BEDFORD — Local officials are going to new lengths to crush the problem of litter and waste in the city.
Mayor Scott Lang announced today that the city has been awarded three solar-powered trash compactors by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative Renewable Energy Trust in an effort to get citizens to take personal responsibility for their trash.
