'Big Belly' hits the Boulevard

The latest addition to Stacy Boulevard is green, weighs about 400 pounds, and eats trash - just what the scenic harbor walkway needs, city officials say.
The 4-foot box, which resembles a green mailbox, is known as "Big Belly." The cordless device uses solar energy to power a compactor that packs more trash into less space than a conventional trash barrel has. That means fewer overflows - bad news for foraging seagulls but good news for strolling residents and visitors...
