Solar-powered trash can will pay for itself

As the department with the primary responsibility for maintaining the refuse collection points at Town Hall, Brewer House, Raymond Library, Wickham Library and greens and parks throughout Town, let me provide to your readers some pertinent information related to the purchase of a $3,200 solar compacting trash receptacle.
For some time, the location outside of the main entrance to Town Hall has posed a challenge for my department with respect to having to continually respond to calls for service since various animals, from squirrels, to possum, to raccoons continually raided the open receptacle, emptying its contents around the main entrance to Town Hall, creating an unsightly and unsanitary condition. This is not what I would hope first time visitors to the Town Hall would see. Additionally, the normal sized trash receptacle was not large enough to handle the volume of refuse generated at this location requiring staff to visit twice a day to empty trash.
