Odds are good that garbage trucks will be seen less frequently at Pickering Wharf and Salem Willows during tourist season.
The reason: Due to a Marblehead native's invention, the amount of trash requiring pickup from public receptacles could be reduced by up to 75 percent.
Enter the Big Belly solar-power trash compactor, brainchild of Jim Poss, 34, president of Seahorse Power Co. in Needham. The device looks like a cross between a newspaper vending machine and a trash can, but it’s far more complex.
